THE SCIENCE BEHIND ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture has its origins in traditional Chinese medicine, which teaches that the body has a flow of energy called Qi, pronounced “chee.” By the manipulation of over 2,000 acupuncture points (called meridians), practitioners can help release Qi and improve its flow through the body. Acupuncture teaches that disruption or blockages of this energy flow can cause disease and ailments. Activating the acupuncture points improves this flow and has a positive impact on overall health.
Acupuncture has been in practice since at least 100 BC, yet this ancient healing method continues to have a strong following today. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is used to treat a wide range of conditions and has also been welcomed by Western Medicine to treat chronic pains, mental health and a multitude of other ailments.
Acupuncture involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles. This results in the body producing natural substances, such as pain-relieving endorphins.
WHAT CAN ACUPUNCTURE BE USED FOR?
Acupuncture is used to treat a very wide range of conditions and complaints and also to help healthy active people of all ages to maintain good health and well-being. Whether the condition is internal or external, acute or chronic, physical or emotional, the aim is to diagnose and treat the cause, and thereby relieve the symptoms.

Cupping is ideal for tight painful muscles, particularly the lower, middle and upper back, and shoulder area. Cupping is natural, safe, relatively painless and has no side effects. Cupping is widely used all over the world by athletes for muscle pain.
